What is a Rig?
Sending a rig is the ultimate accomplishment for the modern rock climber. Every climber dreams of one day sending a rig in excellent style. However, to this very day, there remains much confusion in the climbing community as to what qualifies as a rig. Are you one of these poor, confused souls who has a dream to send a rig without being able to fully conceptualize what exactly a rig is? If so, then you are in the right place. The first rule of rigs is they have to be hard, and I mean hard. They can’t just be a single “dura”. Also, rigs must be sustained. No one ever called a problem or route with a single crux a rig. If there aren’t multiple places where you are probably going to fall off, then I am sorry to say it aint a rig. Ultimately, a rig needs to be inspiring. That rig needs to call your name out and beg for more. Otherwise, you have no chance of putting in the work to send your own personal rig. Now that you all know what a rig is, post up! Let me know what rig inspires you, and let us work towards dispatching it together. As my late father always said, “You might as well call me a trucker because I am sending this rig across state lines!”
